5 TRUE CRIME PODCASTS TO LISTEN TO THIS HALLOWEEN
The dawn of a new and wonderful Halloween is here and boy are we ready to pay our tributes. If you didn't know already, Halloween dates back to the ancient Celtic Festival of Samhain where thousands would gather to remember the departed and blur the line between living and dead. Thankfully for you and me, it's become a yearly tradition, and here we are once again.
However you celebrate, be it with wholesome pumpkin carving or the use of elicit substances in a terrible costume at a house party you wish you didn't attend, we hope there's a healthy mix of troublemaking and treats (our motto always).
To help you get into the Halloween spirit, we've put together a list of our top 5 true crime podcasts to encourage some early supernatural activity. Enjoy.
1. Sword & Scale
The Sword and Scale true-crime podcast is an immersive audio experience covering the dark side of humanity and human nature. Their stories delve into the worst of the worst and include murder, rape, dismemberment and cannibalism. No crime is too brutal and no victim is too pure. The worst monsters are real.
Listen on Sword and Scale, Stitcher, Spotify and Apple.
2. The Night Driver
A young woman disappears into a rain-soaked night. A country town divides on rumour and speculation. And a family relentlessly seeks to uncover the truth. The Walkley Award-winning investigative journalist behind The Teacher’s Pet, Hedley Thomas, is back with a brand new podcast, The Night Driver.
3. Dr Death
We’re at our most vulnerable when we go to our doctors. We trust the person at the other end of that scalpel. We trust the hospital. We trust the system.
Death is a 2018 podcast produced by Wondery that tells the story of Christopher Duntsch, a Texas surgeon who was convicted of gross malpractice after thirty-one of his patients were left seriously injured after he operated on them, and two patients died during his operation.
4. The Teacher's Pet
Lyn and Chris Dawson appear to have the perfect marriage. He's a star footballer and popular high school teacher. She's a devoted wife and mother. They share a beautiful home above Sydney's northern beaches. But when Lyn goes missing, dark secrets are buried. This is no fairytale, but a sordid story of strangely close twin brothers, teenage student lovers, and probable murder. The Australian's Hedley Thomas digs deep into a cold case which has been unsolved for 36 years, uncovering startling new evidence.
5. Man In The Window
To an early love interest, Joe DeAngelo was energetic and worldly. Now, nearly 50 years later, he stands accused of an extended spasm of violence — home invasions, rapes, murders — in the 1970s and ’80s.
