1. HOW WAS THRILLS BORN?

Thrills came about 7 years ago when my husband Brooke and I teamed up with our good friend Ryan to start importing vintage motorcycles from the US. We were between jobs, and enjoying the Byron lifestyle. I had just had my second son, so was keen to keep creating. We were a young family with hunger to build a future for ourselves.
Brooke and I both come from a fashion background so the natural progression was to introduce some apparel alongside the bikes. Our first collection consisted of 8 t-shirts for mens.
With each collection we would gradually start introducing new garments, some denim, some shorts, some shirts until we had a full blown mens collection.
Once we started seeing girls around town wearing the mens clothes, we decided to introduce a womens collection. Our womens and mens collections are now equal in our business.

2. WHAT’S YOUR ROLE AT THRILLS?

My main roles at Thrills are designing our womens collections, overseeing the design room and creative direction.

3. WHAT’S YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS/ HOW DO YOU GET INTO A CREATIVE SPACE?

For clothing design I think about what I am wanting to wear in that season I am also a crazy people watcher, I love seeing how people put their outfits together, street style is so important to our industry. You can see patterns emerging, what colours are trending what shapes, fabrications etc. Being a brand owner, I care deeply about what I do, I’m getting inspiration from so many different avenues all the time. I have a fine arts background so I also make sure I am drawing or painting outside of work to keep my creative juices flowing.

4.WHAT'S YOUR PERSONAL STYLE & HOW DOES THIS TRANSLATES INTO YOUR DESIGN PROCESS?

I am a jeans and t-shirt kinda gal.
I like stealing pieces from my husband’s wardrobe (he does have some of the best vintage t-shirts). I’m also big on fabrications and quality which plays a big part on how a garment will last and wear-in. The hemp, linen and organic cotton part of our collections is growing each season which is exciting as we move into a more aware, transparent and sustainable way of manufacturing. I like pieces to last, I like creating pieces that are your go-to item, your reliable garment that makes you feel comfortable and yourself.

5. COLOURS THAT ARE INSPIRING YOU THIS SEASON / COLOURS YOU ARE DRAWN TO IN GENERAL?

Muted, muddy colours, faded and earthy, shades of black and vintage inspired blues for denim.

6. WHO ARE YOUR STYLE INSPIRATIONS?

Street style is a huge inspiration for me, I also love seeing what everyone at work wears, we have a very creative team and I love seeing how they put their outfits together.
I find so much inspiration in someone who is confident in what they are wearing. It could be jeans/tshirt or dresses and suiting. Designing clothes to feel confident and comfortable in
is my main aim.

7. WHO ARE YOUR MUSES?

Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon (Thelma and Louise)
Erin Wasson
Chloe Sevigny

8. FAVOURITE MUSIC TO DESIGN TO?

Kate Bush, Air, Alice Ivy, Chris Isaak, Alice in Chains, XX, Bruce Springsteen……RANDOM!

9. WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT LIVING IN BYRON?

It's paradise and I can get a turmeric late anywhere.
