2020: A YEAR OF RESILIENCE & GROWTH

As the clock struck 12 on January 1 and we set our intentions for another lap around the sun, no one could have predicted what 2020 had in store for us. With each day seemingly getting stranger and stranger, as we ventured further into the unknown, human connection is what has kept us moving forward, and here we are. From everyone at Thrills, we want to take a minute to say thank you. Without you, there's no way we could have achieved what we did this year. This is just the beginning and you can rest assured knowing 2021 will be bigger and better.

Highlights from the year

1. Taking steps forward on our sustainability journey

This year, we took even more steps forward to develop our current practices both domestically and internationally to improve our day to day operations and lessen the imprint we leave. Some highlights include: introducing Recycled Nylon to our sustainable fabrics line-up and switching our best-selling denim styles to Organic Cotton. We also proudly announced our goal to be using sustainable fabrics across all categories by the end of 2022. We have made significant moves across jersey and denim (our biggest categories) over the past few years and we are committed to making sure each garment is produced with the least impact on our earth as possible!

2. Expanding to the US

In February we celebrated our global expansion to the US with an exclusive launch party in LA. We were blown away by the love - reaching capacity fast with over 1000 RSVPs. It was raucous, just the way we like it, and one for the books.

3. Expanding to Asia

In August, we celebrated our expansion to Asia by opening our very first global flagship store in Tokyo's energetic and colourful district of Shibuya. With our very first employee being Japanese mechanic, Yuichiro Nakama, Japan has been a dream of ours for a very long time and we couldn't be more excited.

4. Collaborating with Jim Saah

We teamed up with iconic Washington D.C. based photographer, Jim Saah on a commemorative capsule dedicated to the punk and hardcore scene of the early 80s. Saah's work is nothing short of incredible and it was an honour for us to showcase them and give them back to those who share our passion for the scene.

5. Partnering with Seed to fight climate change

When people come together and make small changes, the impact can be tremendous. This is why, this year, we partnered with our friends at Seed, Australia's first and only Indigenous youth-led environmental organisation. This year we implemented a voluntary checkout donation function to our website while continuing our strong relationship with Seed as our sole 1% For The Planet partner to build the capacity of young people and communities to gain skills and confidence in telling their story and leading our climate campaigns.

6. Releasing a completely Unbleached collection

In October, we released our very first exclusive 'Unbleached' collection, made using completely unbleached and undyed fabrics. The purpose of the capsule was to raise awareness about the environmental impacts of the dying and bleaching processes, not just for customers but for our team, so we can continue making substantial decisions to preserve our planet.

7. Our 'Home' campaign

Our 'Home' campaign was one of our proudest to-date. This year, more than ever, it was important to stay connected with the people we work with and who inspire us. That’s why, for this campaign, we wanted to introduce some of the talented personalities that make up the extended Thrills family. They gave us a peek inside the homes and creative spaces with no brief. No direction. Uncut and uncensored.
