BTS With Filthy Mouth Creative

Our kind of love story. One of our favourite photographers, Brooke Olimpieri from Filthy Mouth Creative, shot our latest Summer arrivals on LA couple, Dani and Marlon, in their Downtown LA apartment.        ABOUT THE SHOOT: "Dani & Marlon are my favorite people ever. I love to photograph them, I love to hang with them, I love to see Marlon perform, he is the most fantastic musician. They just have this irresistible energy, I love being around them. I went to their place with my box full of Thrills, a bottle of mezcal, and my camera. They live downtown La in this amazing old building. Marlon put on some tunes, Dani danced around and they playfully acted out my idea of a romantic date night with a bath and a sweet song, followed by dinner on their rooftop. They are the real deal, a modern true romance. Their chemistry is insane, they are so in love. After all, even the losers get lucky sometimes." - Brooke (Filthy Mouth Creative)        SHOP THE SHOOT

SUMMER 18 | FADED

SUMMER 18 | FADED

Our latest collection, ‘FADED’, is inspired by the distinctive textures of our rugged terrain: The deep horizon hues, the subtle shadows of the palms, the earthy tones of our Byron Bay home. The core of the collection is natural, both in colour and feel. From textured linens and hemp blends, to bold corduroy and cottons, this range is our most diverse yet. Denim has, and always will be at the forefront of our collections, however this season also explores sustainable fabrics such as hemp, linen and organic cottons. Each style has been carefully curated, refined and constructed with quality in mind. While there is character in each piece, each garment remains as a timeless staple. An Interview with Dumb Punts

An Interview with Dumb Punts

Dumb Punts are long time friends of Thrills, and have been ripping up, down and all around our island home for a good few years now.  If you’re not familiar with them (*cough loser cough*) it must be a pretty sizeable rock that you’ve been living under. Come on out for there is much to learn. Dumb Punts are the brain child of Port Macquarie-born brother and sister James (Jimmy G) on Guitar/Vocals x Drums and Ciarn (Seattle) Gallagher on Drums x Vocals/Guitar backed up by their childhood mate Brent Lockhart on Bass. We were lucky enough to jump on board with the Punts and a bunch of our other favourites (Pist Idiots, Mini Skirt, Charging Stallion) for the Coin Toss Tour back in March this year and can tell you from experience that Dumb Punts playing live in a Bowlo is as good as it gets. They can party with the best of 'em, won’t shy away from a sing along and they have what appears to be a never ending love affair with coffee frappes. They’ve also just dropped their debut full length album titled “The Big One” via Piss Fart Records and a huge run of shows to back it up. From their anthemic choruses, mental riffs and that not so subtle Aussie twang it’s safe to say Punts are back bigger and better than ever. We dropped them a line ahead of the weekend to see how they’ve been and get the goss on their upcoming plans.      Dumb Punts - The Big One by PISSFART RECORDS   Let’s get straight in to it... How’s things? More importantly are you mad I said Port Macquarie and not Bonny Hills? Yes, yes we are. Mostly because it’s factually incorrect. Technically I’m the only one born there. Ciarn’s from Armidale and Brent was born in Sydney somewhere near a frozen coke machine. We grew up in Bonny Hills, Brent and Ciarn had a gang, they’d like hang out and make raps about sandwiches and shit, or something, fuck I dunno, I’m still reeling from spell-checking the questions. How did Dumb Punts come about? Pretty much the story above, then they moved to Melbourne and we started playing, I guess all three of us just always wanted to play music. So you know start one with ya sister and Brent from down the street. Or someone with another name, is Brent a common name? The names aren’t important. Your first full length is out how does it feel? It’s funny you say that, 'cause I picked one up the other day and it feels good. Nice weight, clean grooves and the little sleeve it comes in is nice 'cause I always forget to put them back in the cover but at least with the sleeve you’re good. I nearly dropped one of the cool splatter ones the other day but I’ll just give that to the parents. You sat on this one for a little while, why’s that? To keep it warm. “The Big One” tour kicks off this weekend (and is huge!!!) how are you guys warming up for it? Hot chocolates, Big Red chewing gum, chilli cheese jaffles, hot chips, hot pockets, warm apple pie, leg warmers and pillows. You guys are going to be driving most of the tour yeah? Who’s landed chauffeur duty? Well Dan is driving the first trip, he won a competition called ‘Make me a dreamer no more’, he drops his hat all the time so the foundation granted him the honour. He’s chuffed, when he’s not yelling 'cause he dropped his hat. Terrible temper but you know, it makes his day, we have a lift. He was a bit bummed 'cause he’s supposed to be at work but we highlighted the importance of being true to your word and now we’re cruising up the Hume. Dreams really do come true, and Dan didn’t need that job anyway. After the Aussie leg you guys are off to the UK and Europe with Skeggs, are you pumped for you first run overseas? Yeah we're psyched, but happy if we get to tour with great mates anywhere. Apart from trying not to get pissed before 11am everyday, touring is pretty sweet, oh! Brent’s up. No more questions. UP THE PUNTS!

Interview: The Monster That Is Liquid Face

Interview: The Monster That Is Liquid Face

Thrills besties, and everyone’s soon-to-be new favourite band, Liquid Face, are flying the coupe and playing their first shows outside of the Northern Rivers/Gold Coast region this weekend.     The talent pool of bands in the Byron Shire is as deep as the ocean, but after a string of live shows ranging between Brisbane to Byron Bay, everybody who has managed to catch them is in agreeance that Liquid Face are the real deal.     Formed on the Gold Coast a year and a half ago, the band, now based in Byron Bay, took early inspiration from fellow dual-percussionists Thee Oh Sees and the San Fran Garage scene, but as with all things garage and gritty, Liquid Face became a whole new monster. The end result sounding like something birthed of that early Thee Oh Sees inspiration mixed with proto punk, a healthy interest in DEVO and an even healthier dose of working class rage.    With barely an online presence to speak of, rumours of a killer live show and a blossoming cult-following were the only signs of the band's existence, until this week when they released their first track into the cyber realm.     If you’re lucky enough to be in (or anywhere near) Melbourne this weekend (21st, 22nd or 23rd of September), drop whatever plans you have and make your way to one of their shows.     Cop the first digital taste, venues, dates, and a couple of words from the brain behind LF below.     You’re welcome.      Tell us about Liquid Face. Who’s in the band, and how did you start out?     Apart from a way to piss off the neighbours, Liquid Face was born out of necessity. It’s an outlet. In the beginning, Liquid Face was just a couple of demos I’d recorded as voice memos on my phones. From that, it evolved into a three-piece band which began playing live under a different name. As time progressed and the band's demos developed, the physical line-up of the band grew to reflect the sound. My name’s Cal and I’m the singer/songwriter/guitarist. I’m fortunate enough to be joined by 2 drummers, Anthony and Chris, synth player Sarah and bassist Jack.    I know your early inspiration for Liquid Face was Thee Oh Sees, but you’ve been a band for a while now, how would you describe your sound now?     Yeah Thee Oh Sees are sick, and apart from their song writing and live presence, I’ve always been super into the idea of experimenting with two drummers. The sound became more about that. Mixing that percussive dynamic with other influences like DEVO, Hawkwind, The Spits, Total Control, Goggs and I guess most working-class punk and garage music.    You’re getting a bit of hype up here in the Northern Rivers, describe the local music scene in Byron Bay.     The local music scene ay? SHOUT OUT TO MINISKIRT, ISRAELI CHICKS, DOG FIGHT AND FLYING MACHINE! But seriously there are a lot of talented musicians doing cool, interesting shit out here.   So, you’re heading south to play a couple of shows in Melbourne. How did that come about?     We are! We were asked to come down to play Angst Fest 2.0 and managed to get a couple more dates, including a headline show at The Tote on the 23rd with a sick line up!           You’ve just released your first track online. How has it been received?  Yeah dog, dropped it this morning. It’s got a couple of likes, that’s what it’s all about.   UP THE WALLS by LIQUID FACE   What’s next for LF?  Get the debut pressed! Keep working on the sound and Crank out more shows. Check out their full show list here

A Thrills X Rats Collab

A Thrills X Rats Collab

Rats Mano is a proper Tokyo local. He used to run a bar/nightclub in Harijuku that was home to all of the big time Japanese musicians & actors as well as celebrities from all over the world.    Mano is a pretty prolific character with a solid reputation in the Japanese vintage motorcycle scene. He even has his own motorcycle club of friends that do bike runs all over the Japanese coast and mountains.    He eventually burnt out on the bar and nightclub scene and wanted to create a new business that he was proud of. Mano set out to make a clothing brand inspired by Rock n'Roll and motorcycle culture, that embodied all the finest points of Japanese attention to detail.    Mano or “Rats” is the founder and owner of the brand Rats and their concept store “The Jolly Roger” in Tokyo. They commit to small capsule collections made in Japan and each and every piece is carefully thought out, and of high quality.    Rats was on holiday in Australia late in 2017, and Thrills mechanic Yui contacted him to catch up. Once Rats met Yui and saw all the similarities shared between Thrills and Rats, in both style and their love for vintage choppers, the seed was planted and the mission to collaborate was born.  Thrills X Rats   Available at our online and flagship stores  SHOP THE COLLAB

THRILLS DADS: NICH ZALMSTRA

THRILLS DADS: NICH ZALMSTRA

Introducing Nich, Holly & their little girl Della. Nich is the Accessories designer here at Thrills HQ and has been working with us for 4 years. Nich & Holly moved up from Sydney to work for Thrills and started their family here in Byron Bay.    Nich - what got you into motorbikes? I rode dirt bikes on our friends farm when I was really young and after a trip to Indo where I bought a little Suzi 250 for like $150 to ride along the Javanese coast I was hooked again. Something about being so exposed and having accesses to so much more than a car is pretty darn arousing. Thrills gave me the opportunity to intern and create art in exchange for a little HondaCB 5 or so years ago where I, with the help of Yui, brought it back to life. Since then I've graduated to sketchy bush mechanic tinkering on old Harley's and teaching little Delly anything I know about them. Nich - whats the best thing about being a dad? Theres actually no greater Love than the love for your child and we have been so lucky to create our cheeky, brave little Della. Being able to teach her even the most simplest things, take her fun places and share her infectious funny little joy has been the best. She’s the fucking best!! Holly - what makes Nich the best dad? Nich is always laughing and being silly with Della. He gives her so much love and affection but can be tough when he needs to. He also spends all his time making things for Della, like her mini chopper. He’s never too busy for her. This makes Nich the best dad!

THRILLS DADS: KYE DARCY

THRILLS DADS: KYE DARCY

Introducing Kye & Renee, we've known these two since the humble beginnings of Thrills, when they shot for one of our very first campaigns. Kye restores and designs furniture, skates and raises baby Zephyr with his partner Renee. We recently caught up with them to find out what is so alluring about furniture making and what the best part about being a dad is! 1. Kye - What got you interested in making furniture? Well, truthfully I wanted to be an interior decorator while i was in high school. Then during my manual arts class I discovered my passion for wood working, and it turns out all the tinkering i did in my parents garage growing up manifested into a natural talent. 2. Kye - whats your favourite thing about being a dad? I think it would have to be sharing all the things I love. I get to discover everything again for the first time and seeing how stoked he gets reminds me of being a kid again. 3. Renee - what makes Kye a great dad? Kye has a fearless, adventurous and fun spirit. I love that he is passing that onto Zephyr because I’m not like that at all. He teaches Zephyr to enjoy the best things in life to the fullest. After a massive day of work he will come home, take Zephyr to the skate park, cook the family dinner and read Zeph books in bed until he falls asleep. Family comes first and I love him so much for it!
